What we do
WE ARE ENERGY
The LNG provided to Madeira island is sourced from Sines LNG Terminal, where it is loaded in ISO containers to the port of Lisbon, from where it’s shipped to Madeira island. On the island, they are transported by road to the Satellite Plant so that the natural gas can be regasified and then supplied to the Vitória Thermoelectric Power Plant. The containers return to Sines for refilling, restarting a new cycle.
How is Liquefied Natural Gas transported from Sines LNG Terminal to Madeira island?
LNG is transported in intermodal ISO containers, specifically built for the transport of this product at cryogenic temperatures.
Currently, GÁSLINK has its own fleet of 64 containers. Their intermodality ensures logistics flexibility, allowing LNG to be transported and distributed in various scales, in a modular and adaptable way, even in situations of growing demand, to islands.
The LNG ISO containers meet the internationally established requirements of ADR, RID and IMDG Codes for the safe transport of LNG by road, rail and sea respectively.
GÁSLINK LNG ISO containers have a double walled tank with special insulation and vacuum, which allows LNG to be kept at cryogenic temperatures for several months.

Virtual Range of Gáslink
GÁSLINK ensures the logistics of transport and delivery of the regasified natural gas to the end customers. It reaches regions and islands whose energy needs do not justify the large investment required in the construction of maritime terminals for the LNG unloading by methane vessels and the reception and storage of large quantities of LNG, solution that only can be justified for large consumption volumes.
