Gáslink in the spotlight on CNN Innovation

Gáslink was the special guest on CNN Portugal’s ‘CNN Inovação’ programme, broadcast on 7 and 8 December.

The television programme focused on the operation of the Virtual Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) Pipeline between mainland Portugal and the island of Madeira – the largest operation of its kind in the Atlantic, with the participation of Carolina Catanho da Silva, Director & CFO of the Sousa Group, João Dionísio Sousa, Executive Director of Gáslink, and Ana Melim, Captain of the ship ‘Jaime S’.

In a pioneering logistics chain in the country, ensured mainly through the Sousa Group’s own resources, the Virtual Liquefied Natural Gas Pipeline guarantees the continuous and regular supply of the Vitória Thermal Power Station, managed by the Madeira Electricity Company.

The introduction of natural gas into Madeira’s energy matrix, replacing fuel oil, has avoided the emission of more than 380,000 tonnes of CO2 (carbon dioxide) into the atmosphere since 2014.
